Development Concept

A shared foundation for living, learning & peace building
Menno Hall was never intended to be a single-purpose building. From the beginning, the vision was to create a place where housing, learning, and community life could coexist, shaped by shared values and a deep sense of responsibility to people and place.
That original development vision has now taken form in three distinct but interconnected communities: Pax House, Haven, and PeaceBridge Institute. While each serves a different purpose, they are united by a common design philosophy rooted in community responsibility, mutual care, and hospitality.
Across Menno Hall, faith is understood not as a boundary, but as an invitation - to live attentively, to learn together, and to work for peace in tangible, everyday ways.

Haven: Rental Housing for the “Missing Middle”
Secure, accessible rental homes designed for individuals and families who fall between market housing and social housing.
Vancouver is facing a housing crisis, with rising rents and low vacancy rates making it increasingly difficult to live near UBC and UEL. Haven responds by providing 86 secured rental homes for the “missing middle”, individuals and families who need stable, accessible housing but don’t qualify for traditional social housing.
With financing from BC HousingHub, Haven will offer a mix of apartments to meetdiverse needs:
• 32 studio apartments
• 28 one-bedroom apartments
• 19 two-bedroom apartments
• 7 three-bedroom apartments
About 30% of the units are family-oriented, providing space for households of different sizes.
Residents may include mature students, faculty, and people who live and work in the area. By supporting local residents, Haven also contributes to reducing commuting distances, lowering emissions, and easing traffic in the neighbourhood.
